The Bible

Note to you as a parent:

This week we are talking about the Bible. Now as a college student I learned a colossal amount of info about the time periods, grammar, language, culture, and many other things that affected the authors and what they wrote. The scary thing is that I was given “the tip of the iceberg,” if you will, when it comes to Biblical Interpretation. As a child I didn’t know any of this and yet God was still able to use this ancient book to speak to me. I am not going to teach your children the theological implications of recent Biblical discoveries or the cultural nuances of the Koine Greek that Paul used when pining his letters. What I am going to try to convey to them is that this is a very extraordinary book. This book contains the history of a people that has been extremely close to God throughout much of their story and there is much that we can gain from knowing and understanding what they wrote. I hope that they will understand that this book is as “Alive and Active” as when it written, but this is where I am going to need your help. Your personal devotion to making sure that your children grasp the full power and importance of the Bible is crucial. I spend one hour a week trying to convey these important lessons. How much time will you spend?

“What is The Bible?”

The Bible is a collection of letters, songs, and stories that have been passed down through the ages, that all speak of God moving, acting, and, above all, loving the world. There are many views on the “inerrancy” of Scripture and how literal it truly is, but one thing all Christians believe is that it contains everything necessary to have a true relationship with our Loving God.
